The rules, minus the fog
How to play Hearago
Your goal is to build the best music timeline by working out the order in which songs were released. You do not need the exact year. You only need to know whether this chorus came before or after the others.
Before the first note
Put a phone or tablet in the middle of the table and open Hearago. Pick a deck, create two to six teams and choose how many cards it takes to win.
Every team starts with one dated card. That card begins its timeline. Pick someone to scan the first QR code; they are the DJ for this turn.
While the song plays
The DJ scans the QR code with their phone and starts the song in the chosen music service. They can see the title, so they cannot help their team on this turn.
The active team listens and places the new card before its oldest song, after its newest one or somewhere between two cards it has already won.
The year drops
Once the team commits, Hearago reveals the title, artist and year. Correct position? The card joins the timeline. Wrong position? It goes back and the next team takes over.
The DJ role moves too. Nobody spends the whole game behind a phone, and nearly everyone plays nearly all the time.
Winning the game
The first team to reach the chosen number of cards wins. You can also play without a target and stop when the playlist, dinner or the neighbours make the decision for you.
